Prologue |
|
A cloaked and shrouded figured stood at the steps of an ancient monastery and looked at the large expanse of grass where the sound of crickets and other small wildlife could be heard, with sorrow. A second figure joined the first. |
"You know there is no other choice, if we hope to save some of what we've fought so long to protect." |
The first figure sighed and lowered the hood to the cloak, revealing the features of woman just entering her thirties, her short blonde hair was pulled away from her thin face with a pair of ornate hair clips made of bronze, her warm grey eyes were full of sadness and a bit of pain. "I should be able to stay, and fight at the side of my Sisters, they're going to need my skills and blade." |
"If you stay, all will be lost, being who and what you are and what you bear, would be the first to fall. With your strength against us, we would have no hope left to us. You must go, there is no other choice." The speaker finally lowered her hood as well, showing an elderly woman with white hair and fierce black eyes. |
"The dreams could be wrong." |
The look the older woman gave the younger spoke volumes as she silently handed over a travel pack with bulging sides. |
With a sigh, the pack was accepted, and as the woman pulled it on, the cloak was pulled back, showing a stomach that had started to swell with new life with a sword belt buckled over. |
"You should not have waited so long, the child inside will drain you of your strength." |
"I know, but I was hoping my child would be blessed by you when it is born." |
"The child cannot have any ties to the Order other than ties of blood." |
The traveler bowed her head, the elder gently patted her cheek, then placed her hand on the forehead. "Go with the blessing of the Light, Daughter." |
"My thanks, Mother. My the blessings of the Light go with you and my Sisters." She pulled the hood back up over her head and walked down the steps, onto the field of grass, then disappeared into the woods beyond. She never looked back. |
